Biography
David was born in Dublin, Ireland. He studied piano, recorder and guitar before taking up the oboe at the age of 17. An Arts Council scholarship enabled him to study with the world's greatest oboists Heinz Holliger and Maurice Bourgue at the International Masterclass in London, Paris, Avington and Cologne. He won the Principal Prize in the College of Music, Dublin, under the tuition of Albert Soliveres and completed the Licentiate of Trinity College London (L.T.C.L.) in 1981.
Alongside his musical studies he successfully completed a Masters Degree in Science (Botany) in 1981. He joined the RTE Concert Orchestra in 1982 and has been a frequer and popular soloist with them since. David has also perfomed as soloist in England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Egypt, Tunisia, Israel and Spain. He recently returned from a tour of the USA, including a solo performance with Phil Coulter at City Hall, New York, for Mayor Giuliani. He plays a wige range of music from traditional through pop to classical.
Following on a chart-topping single success with the instrumental "Gabriel's Oboe" (the theme from the movie "The Mission") he has recorded two successful albums with Frank McNamara for K-Tel - "The Music Of The Night" (1989) and "The Way I Feel" (1992). He has also released his third album "Celtic Moods" (1996) as part of the new K-Tel "Celtic Moods Collection". David has also recorded "A Celtic Christmas" (1997) and "Pure Celtic Moods" (1998). A triple CD of his Celtic Music was released in Spain for Christmas 1998 and sold 50,000 copies - topping the National Compliation chart there for four weeks. The latest release is called "Heart's Quest" upon which is based a music and dance show currently in pre-production with a tour commencing early in 2001.
His Celtic Music series have each been licensed to Valley Distributions for release in America commencing in March 2000.
He has recorded with The Chieftains, Phil Coulter, Frank Patterson, the original Riverdance, Lord Of The Dance and most other major Irish artists.
